The goal of this project was to design an automatic stair lift capable of safely transporting a person between the floors of a house. The final stair lift design is powered by an onboard battery and is driven by a right angle worm drive motor which supplies torque to a pinion gear connected to the rail. The chair travels along a single rail by means of three pairs of rubber wheels which are designed to negotiate vertical and horizontal curves in the rail.
